Now the mad rush of ‘new year new you’ is out of the way, it’s time to face the reality that getting fit and losing weight is going to take more than just a month. Research shows us that taking regular exercise has long term positive effects on our physical and emotional wellbeing but how do you find the motivation to make the first steps to kick start and maintain your gym routine? The answer is simple. Read on as we share 10 reasons why everyone needs a personal trainer.
1 - You learn how to do it right
There’s nothing worse than walking into a gym and feeling like you don't know what you're doing and even worse, thinking that everyone is staring at you while you do it wrong. It’s daunting enough walking into this new environment full of people who look fit and confident, so straight away, this would be one of my top reasons to hire a personal trainer, if anything, just to help you get off to a good start.
2 - You get support
As OnPoint personal trainers, we are very proud of how we go above and beyond to support you on your fitness journey. There is so much more to it than just an hour of intense exercise and we recognise this, which is why we have created some amazing support networks and make ourselves available on a daily basis if needed.
3 - We don’t listen to your BS
Look, we are human too. We make mistakes and we’re not perfect but what we have done over the years, is get ourselves out of the rut and into a better place both physically and mentally. And when you get to this point, you are able to look back and think ‘I was so full of excuses’. So it’s not that we don't have the heart to empathise but we will be straight with you and call it BS if need be. It’s nothing personal. You’re paying us to be this way!
4 - You’ll see results faster
It’s true. We know what we’re doing. The team of personal trainers at OnPoint in Hertford have over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry. We’re well educated, well travelled and in amongst working with clients and spending time with family, we continue to learn more, because we love it! And when you hit a stumbling block, which you will do many times, we know how to keep you progressing.
5 - You have an appointment so you have to go
OnPoint is based on Stony Hills, between Hertford and Ware. We’re not a typical high street gym which you can walk into and use as you wish. Our two services of Team Training and Personal Training require you to book an appointment if you want to take part. As a result, we have a booking app for the classes and we pre book all personal training sessions for the month ahead. This system works because it makes you accountable - if it’s in the diary, you will go. If not, it’s easy for something to get in the way. That goes with everything in life and that’s why we encourage our busy clients to book it into their schedules also.
6 - We will push you
Ultimately, our goal is to assist in getting you where you want to be. More often than not, you’re not there because it’s really difficult! Exercise can make you sore and you will need to make some changes to your diet and lifestyle in order to reach your goals. So it’s more about giving you that little nudge and encouragement rather than pushing you to the point of being sick. And despite possibly hating us at the time, you will always be grateful for it in the end.
7 - We help you to improve and be the best you
OnPoint personal training is about seeing results, achieving and learning on the way. We will constantly adjust and tweak your exercise program as you progress and provide personalised diet advice to assist with achieving your desired goals but most importantly, we keep it fun and interesting to ensure you stay motivated and enjoy exercising, so eventually it can become part of your lifestyle.
8 - We challenge you to do crazy things
We’re not fans of fad diets and gimmick exercise, in fact quite the contrary. We are more back to basics both with what we get you to do in the gym and with your food. Keeping it simple is so underrated! However, we will encourage you to try things that may be out of your comfort zone. This isn’t to embarrass you and film for our instagram, but more to keep you moving forward. If we believe you can do something then we won't think twice about encouraging you because we’re always right - that's why we’re personal trainers ;).
9 - Personalisation
You’ll be surprised how many people we help who have been members of gyms for years. It doesn't matter what level you're at, you will always benefit from having a personal trainer take a look at what you're doing as they can provide you with a few tips and even a program of guidance to help move you forward. Remember, this is what we live for! At OnPoint, our personal training service is more about the whole experience, from exercise to diet and managing things like eating out and socialising without ruining all your hard work. So you’re not paying for an hour’s workout, you're paying to have us coach you daily to ensure you reach your goals and maintain them.
10 - We make it fun
There is a stigma attached to exercise and how sore it makes you, how much of an effort it is to do and we find ourselves just putting it off because that’s so much easier to do right?
Well have you considered that maybe you’re just doing it wrong? No matter what it is, if we don’t enjoy doing it, we won't stick to it and when it comes to our health and fitness, consistency is key. But how can we stay consistent if we dread the thought of even doing it? This is a big part of why people love personal training at OnPoint. We make it fun!
