The Covid-19 pandemic put a massive spanner in the works for our social calendar, and it felt like an eternity since the last time we done something together as a team, but we kept plodding along and before you knew it, Saturday 4th September was here and so was our first social event for 2021.
We had visited Farm Fitness in the past and it was such a great day that we knew it had to happen again, only this time, so many more members at OnPoint fancied the change of scenery and with that, the challenge we all knew was waiting for us in Great Dunmow.
Over the years, Farm Fitness has grown massively in popularity and it's always a firm favourite with our members, so we contacted Tom and Clare to arrange another private booking and rallied the troops to make the trip over.
Naturally, there is always an element of fear and anxiety of what it might be like, especially for those who haven't been before, but I knew the strength and support of our community would get everyone through the day. And it certainly did!
We all met nice and early to calm the nerves and have a good look round, it's great to see a few new additions and some of the torture equipment that remains, but the weather was great, the team spirit was high and myself and fellow coach Ryan began to separate the members into what we thought would be even teams.
After a thorough explanation from Tom and Clare about what the stations entailed, I think the nerves got the better of everyone as no one could remember a thing! However, after a decent bit of stretching and a rather competitive warm up round, it was very clear for all to see and feel, just how the day was going to go.
We kicked off with a great team building drill, including a team rope run followed by a race to complete what felt like thousands of Ski Erg meters, only to be told it wasn't over yet, it's now on to the bike erg to set the score for your team. I have to say, I was looking a bit pale after this round but fortunately for me, I had Trix on my team which meant I wasn't allowed to speak, let alone quit. We all kept plugging away and I believe we got of to a great start, topping the leader board after round 1.
At this point, everyone was then able to break off into one of the four stations created to make up the remainder of the day.
There was so much variety, from jumping over fences, to rower sprints, hanging from bars, pushing the prowler, lifting atlas stones... it was immense!
So fun, so varied and so rewarding.
Seeing and hearing the hard work and team spirit throughout the day was a proud moment, it's what makes OnPoint such a great place to be a part of and it's why we can do events like Farm Fitness and do them well.
Next year we will be visiting again and we will also be looking to enter teams in some of their awesome events that take place throughout the year.
Thank you to the wonderful team of Tom and Clare, to his dad for the awesome post workout food, and of course, to the brave members at OnPoint that took part.
Until next time...
