Muddy Mayhem Event

Posted in Fitness

Now all restrictions have been lifted, our events schedule is back in full swing and there is so much to get involved in, it's difficult to know where to start.

Fortunately we've got plenty booked in but there was one event that popped up and it hit a nerve as it’s linked to two charities, Garden House Hospice and Isabel Hospice, both of which are very close to my heart as back in the days of my nursing career I was involved with Garden House Hospice.

So when the opportunity came up to take part in the 5km Muddy Mayhem Obstacle Course, I jumped at the chance to get my fellow members and clients from Onpoint involved.

I mean, after the last two years we have all had, it was time to be having fun again!

It was 11am we arrived at Woodhall Estate, which is literally round the corner from Onpoint, it was a bit chilly but the sun kept shining through the clouds and we were just happy it wasn’t raining.

After a few nervous wee’s and registration, we got our race numbers and it was time to get warmed up, which consisted of over 500 people dancing around in a field with a DJ jumping around on stage taking us through a 80’s warm up, it was a great laugh, but it got the crowd going and the atmosphere was electric.

We then headed to the start line, setting off in sets of 100 people at a time with the countdown theme tune playing, you could't make it up!

it finally came to our turn and away we went running up the first hill of many to the first obstacles which included a lot of climbing over and under things, followed by a deep sinking mud bath which came up to our chest, we had to walk through to cross to the other side to continue with the course that’s when the hysterical laughter started.

Now soaking wet and covered in mud, we continued to run getting wet and muddy along the way, but the sun was warming up nicely and everyone had great big smiles on their faces.

Approximately an hour and half later we had to cross two freezing cold rivers to wash ourselves down before heading towards the finish line with a great sense of achievement.

It’s always nervous to start with when you are out of your comfort zone but nothing beats that great feeling of euphoria when you cross the finish line & collect your medal.

We had the best time and it has inspired us to take part in Tough Mudder in August, but we will definitely be returning next year to do it again.

A huge thank you to all the organisers and volunteers. It was a great day out and a great event to be part of. Also a big high five to all the members that took part, you are my heroes!
